Beginning the Project
Gimli is the setting for this major renovation. Mike & Iris had a dream to retire in their cottage by the lake in Gimli. Their cottage, though very nice, was too small to suit their retirement needs. Mike and Iris hired an architect to design an addition to the back of the cottage, incorporating a master bedroom and on-suite that would be overlooking the lake.
Mike being very interested in Yacht Life wanted a multi-purpose garage added to the left front of the cottage. The garage was to incorporate an entrance to their home, as well as storage. A beam and rail system to be able to lift and trolly a sizeable yacht in the garage for winter repair and reconstruction was also added. The versatility of the garage was to include a one car parking stall.
The right side of the porch was to be extended to create storage and a comfortable reading area with a fireplace, and patio doors, to a rear deck. There were other home renovations done to the cottage including an upper floor deck and waterproof to below that could accommodate a hot tub to enjoy a glass of wine watching the sunset in the bay.
The End Result
The execution of their dreams came through in the build as Mike work side-by-side with contractors to achieve all of their goals. This was one of the most successful build pleasing to the eye and a testament to major renovations. This process worked very well to turn a small cottage into a permanent retirement residence lacking nothing!
